Paul Maklin

Paul Macklin is a passionate artist, art teacher and creative mentor. In his sixtyeight years he has expressed his creativity as poet, musician, potter, painter, actor, graphic designer, creative director, as the founder of Amazing People and as creative mentor to both artists and entrepreneurs.

Paul divides his time between his family, farm, painting, Amazing People, teaching art and art adventures. Paul draws inspiration for his work and life from the unique qualities of the Australian landscape regularly fueled by trips to the mountain desert of Arkaroola and Hawkesbury River along with the spectacular coast and forest environments that surround the Art Farm at MacMasters Beach.

Paul has been traveling to Central Australia and Arkaroola in particular, to seek solace and inspiration for over a decade. He hopes to allow the wilderness, colour and spiritual qualities of his experiences of the land to emerge through his work and inspire others to appreciate and respect the remarkable land we are privileged to walk upon.

Paul has been engaged in group and solo exhibitions on the Central Coast NSW and in numerous art education initiatives including the Arkaroola Art Adventure, Hawkesbury Art Adventure, Sketch Club Coordination, Finding YOUR Way creative transformation workshops and private, creative mentoring both in person and online. Paul was a finalist in 2019 and 2021 in the Gosford Art Prize.

Paul is a consummate learner and he engages those around him in his passionate exploration of art and life. His great joy is to walk the path of discovery, with no fixed destination, while helping others step more confidently into their creative journey. Paul is equally at home helping students explore principles of art-making and design; form, perspective and colour as he is embarking on more exploratory abstract and expressive creative journeys. His online art mentoring program draws students from around Australia.

“I see that we all have a zone at the edge of our experience where we have the opportunity to learn, to step into the unknown. We can do that by starting with known principles and expanding towards the edge, or simply by stepping off and learning to fly. My job is to help students discover their own method for confidently extending their creative practice.”

Paul Macklin Testimonial
“I have now been on two art adventure workshops
with Paul Macklin. One to Arkaroola and one on the
Hawkesbury River, and have found him to be a great
teacher who is very generous in his information and
technical advice and passionate in his enthusiasm for his
subject. He has the ability to make the workshops not
only extremely worthwhile but also great fun”.
Annie Herron

“Paul is a gifted teacher but so much more;
compassionate, understanding, insightful and
constructively honest, he gives just enough guidance and
space to allow one to find one’s own way in a field which
demands individuality if it is to retain it’s integrity.”
Peter Stuckey
