Artist Statement
Art is my way of responding to the world around me and communicating ideas. I find inspiration from everyday life. I will often see a person or a place that triggers an emotional response from me. I will then find a way to capture that feeling in a painting. My recent paintings are inspired by the passing of time and the change in social norms. I have used the imagery of the vintage teacups to evoke in the viewer a sense of a bygone era. To bring back memories of their grandmother as she proudly laid out her finest crockery. When people had time for afternoon tea, time to sit and chat. I wanted to draw attention to the quality of workmanship of the crockery with its unique patterns and intricate detail. I want my paintings to capture the emotional mood of the subject, in a way that is relatable to viewer and can trigger an emotional response. I am also very interested in social commentary; through my artistic career this has been an ongoing theme. As an artist I have been involved in several successful community art projects and exhibitions.
